Why is it prohibited to build structures on top of Rand Water servitudes?

• The pipelines carry water with high pressure. Thus, if a pipeline bursts, the pressure of the water can cause damage to properties and/or cause fatalities.

How can community members identify Rand Water servitudes?

The Rand Water servitudes can be identified by beacons that are rectangular, made of solid concrete and are painted in blue and white.

How does building on top of Rand Water servitudes impact on communities?

• It makes it difficult for Rand Water to access its pipelines for maintenance purposes. This impacts on continuous water provision.
• If the pipeline is not serviced, communities will have water outages.

These structures are built very close to Rand Water’s beacons. These beacons show that Rand Water servitudes are underneath.
