Hekpoort diesel thieves caught

The Hekpoort community has been terrorised by thieves going around stealing diesel.

Three men were arrested by the Hekpoort police after they were caught with stolen diesel.

Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye from the Hekpoort police said the three men aged between 28 and 63 were arrested for theft and possession of stolen diesel on Friday, July 29 at about 16:30.

On Friday afternoon police were conducting crime prevention under the command of Sergeant Phosa. While they patrolled along the R24 next to Maanhaarrand Cafe the members saw a bus parked next to the road, with a man lying underneath it.

Police approached the bus to investigate, and found a 20 litre container filled with diesel. The men admitted to police that they were draining diesel from the bus.

All three men including the driver of the bus were arrested. The bus is used to transport learners from Rustenburg’s side, and they crossed the Rustenburg border to come and conduct their criminal activities in Gauteng.”

The suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.

Maswanganye said the Hekpoort Police Station commander, Captain Tebogo Kgomo was pleased with the arrests and applauded the members for their vigilance and dedication. She also urged members of the community to report criminal activities to the Hekpoort police on 014 576 9100. Alternatively they can use the Crime Stop number on 08600 101111 or the My SAPS app.
