Kagiso police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said, “It is alleged that the deceased was amongst the patrons who were leaving the tavern at about 00:30. A gunshot was heard outside the tavern a few seconds after the deceased and other patrons had left.
The deceased’s bleeding body with a gunshot wound was later found on the street next to the tavern. Police have opened a murder docket and are investigating the motive behind the heinous crime.”
Acting Kagiso Police Station commander Colonel Peter Mabuso expressed his utter disgrace and concern at the incident which happened despite nationwide campaigns and education about gender-based violence. The young woman became a victim a week after the Gauteng Premier and MEC have launched the Green Door centre to protect abused women in the area.
This is an unfortunate incident undermining efforts of law-enforcement forces and all civil groups that constantly discourage gender-based violence, especially during this special month that is dedicated to women in general.
“We urge anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator(s) to come forward,” urged Colonel Mabuso.
An appeal is made to anyone with information to call Crime Stop line 08600 10111 or Kagiso Police on 011 696 9000/ 9059/ 9065/ 9067. Police can assure that the information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
