Man allegedly attacks girlfriend then sets their shack on fire

Police are on the hunt for a man who allegedly first assaulted his girlfriend and then set their shack on fire.

Kagiso police are searching for a woman’s boyfriend who allegedly set their shack on fire.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya confirmed the incident happened at about 03:00 on Sunday, May 5 in Kagiso Ext 8.

“The 26-year-old woman told police that an argument ensued between her and her boyfriend. He then attacked her by striking her with a brick to the head. She ran into the house where she then locked herself in. The boyfriend went into their shack behind the house and took his belongings after which he set the shack on fire. Some of the contents included the woman’s ID, clothes, bedding, her child’s birth certificate and clothes,” Sibiya said.

The motive for the suspect’s decision is being investigated by Kagiso Police.

“Police are searching for the man who is still on the run. If anyone knows his whereabouts, immediately call Kagiso Police detectives on 011 696 9059.”
