Security company helps nab stock thieves
A local security company responded to a tip-off and in the process assisted police to catch three suspected livestock thieves.
Guardmax Protection Services assisted in apprehending three suspected stock thieves recently.
According to Guardmax Protection Services director Jan Venter, patrollers noticed a motorist behaving suspiciously.
He said the driver of a bakkie, which contained goats, was then pulled over, adding this act was within the frame of the law because a lookout was issued.
“There were three men inside the bakkie which was then inspected. The men, however, failed to provide any proof that any of them owned the goats,” Venter explained.
He revealed further that one of the suspects confessed the goats were stolen in the North West.
“The guards apprehended the men and took them to the Muldersdrift Police Station for further investigation and were officially charged with stock theft. The police’s Stock Theft Unit was also contacted, who collected the stolen livestock,” Venter explained.
