He was a nurturing father, says ex-wife of Lewisham pub shooting victim

Family left shocked and devastated following the death of Steven Theron who was shot dead outside a pub.

Steven Theron’s death has left family and friends reeling.

The 34-year-old father was shot and killed allegedly by the owner of a pub in Lewisham on February 15.

Krugersdorp police station commander Brigadier Happy Xaba said the incident was a result of a physical altercation between Theron and the pub owner. The owner has since been arrested and is in custody until the investigation is concluded.

According to Theron’s brother, Morne Theron, the family was never notified with urgency after the incident and they had to find out on social media.

”It’s hard to explain because we never expected such devastating news,” he said.

Morne described Steven as someone who was never a violent person by nature.

“He always wanted to have fun and loved to bring a positive vibe everywhere he went.”

Ex-wife Chanel Kloppers, who shares a child with Theron, described him as a nurturing father and someone who made sure to be present in their 11-year-old daughter’s life.

“Despite our relationship ending we always had contact and a good co-parenting relationship. He was never difficult and never put himself first before his family,” she told the Krugersdorp News.

Hanno, also one of Theron’s brothers, was with Steven that fateful night and confirmed to the News he was shot outside the pub.

“The incident happened as we were about to leave. The actions of the pub owner were uncalled for,” he claimed.

Morne mentioned that a memorial service for Steven will take place sometime next week.

The News reached out to the pub for comment, however, they refused.
