Copper thieves and drug users nabbed during Flying Squad bust

The police's West Rand Flying Squad seized Mandrax as well as almost R70 000 worth of stolen copper cables recently.

The police’s West Rand Flying Squad (WRFS) shared yet another major successful bust after they arrested numerous culprits for either having stolen copper or highly addictive drugs in their possession.

The spokesperson for the WRFS, Karen du Plessis, said on March 6 they arrested one person in Job Street, Burgershoop for being in possession of Mandrax tablets.

“A few days later, in the early hours of March 10, our officers also arrested a suspected cable thief in Bekkersdal with 25kg of copper cables. The going rate for copper is R165 per kg with the estimated value of R4 125 seized, as well as a silver Toyota Corolla,” she revealed.

“On the same day, at around 08:00, our officers got a lead of another suspected copper thief in Magaliesburg. They arrested the person who was driving a Toyota bakkie near the R24 on Rustenburg Road and had 391kg of copper cables in his possession. The estimated value is R64 515,” she concluded.
