Drunk diesel thief arrested

Police made a rather bizarre arrest recently where the driver of the vehicle was not only intoxicated but had suspected stolen property in his possession.

Police arrested a drunk driver in a suspected stolen vehicle and found 12 diesel containers with him.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Sello, police received a tip-off about a suspect transporting diesel from Kagiso to Lenasia. He said Gauteng Traffic Wardens, along with police, spotted a bakkie, which matched the description of a stolen vehicle along Impala Road in Doornkop.

“The driver was immediately stopped and upon searching the vehicle, the driver was found transporting 12 25-litre containers of diesel.

When questioned, the suspect failed to produce any proof of ownership for the diesel.

“The suspect was arrested and charged with two offences, for being in possession of suspected stolen property and driving under the influence.”

The driver will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court.
