Hekpoort Road cleared after protest

Hekpoort Road near Munsieville has been cleared following a protest, but motorists are advised to remain cautious.

A protest on Hekpoort Road near Munsieville earlier today, September 18, has been dispersed and the road reopened.

According to Deka Specialized Services general manager, Marcel Jonker, dozens of protesters blocked the road, set tyres alight, and threw stones.

He said the demonstration followed the alleged arrest of four people.

The road has since been cleared.

“They were moving down Hekpoort Road until about 12:30,” Jonker explained.

When the Krugersdorp News arrived, several private security companies were on standby at the scene.
