Investigation launched after alleged assault at landfill site
An inquiry is underway following claims that a resident was beaten by security personnel at a Krugersdorp waste facility. Authorities have pledged swift action.
Images and reports of an alleged assault at the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site on October 10 have sparked concern on social media. Posts claim that a man was attacked by security guards while attempting to dispose of household waste.
According to the post, the man alleged that he was assaulted by seven security guards in front of his child. The family reportedly opened a police case and intends to complain to the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority.
The Krugersdorp News reached out to the victim for comment, but he declined.
Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) Waste Services Department has since responded.
MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu said the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness. She confirmed that the posts circulating online show a man who was allegedly assaulted by security personnel at the landfill after attempting to take his bin to the site.
Mahlangu added that an urgent investigation has been launched and the incident reported to the municipality’s Public Safety Division. She stressed that the process would be thorough and swift to establish the facts, with the safety of all users remaining a top priority.
“The Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site remains safe and fully operational. Residents and registered users may continue to access and use the facility as normal. We will provide updates as the investigation progresses,” Mahlangu said.
Police were also approached for comment, but had not responded at the time of publication. Their feedback will be published once received.
