West Rand crime hotspots revealed

Police alert residents across the West Rand, from Westonaria to Mindalore, to key crime hotspots as the festive season approaches.

Police are warning residents of the West Rand about a rise in criminal activity, particularly as the festive season approaches.

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane said the police have identified key crime hotspots where residents should remain vigilant.

“Crime in the West Rand is becoming smarter, faster, and more unpredictable. Residents can stay a step ahead by being aware of these high-risk areas,” Maremane said.

The identified hotspots include:

• Kagiso Ext 8 – robberies, hijackings and cable theft
• Mohlakeng Ext 5 – burglaries and kidnappings
• Randfontein CBD – Phone snatching and ATM scams
• Krugersdorp (Lewisham and Mindalore) – hijackings and smash-and-grabs
• Westonaria and Bekkersdal – burglaries
• N12 and R28 routes – vehicle spiking and hijacking attempts
