Security guard suspended, to face disciplinary hearing over landfill assault
A security guard has been suspended and will face a disciplinary hearing after an investigation confirmed the assault of a member of the public at the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site.
A security guard stationed at the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site has been suspended and will face a disciplinary hearing after an investigation confirmed that a member of the public was assaulted.
The incident occurred on October 6 last year at the waste facility. Claims of the assault were first reported by the Krugersdorp News on October 19.
Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) confirmed on January 15 that its internal investigation has been finalised and found that the assault did take place.
According to MCLM assistant manager for media and public relations, Refilwe Mahlangu, the security officer involved is employed by a private service provider contracted to render security services at municipal facilities.

“The security officer has been suspended and will appear before an internal disciplinary committee,” Mahlangu said.
She added that the municipality has instructed the service provider to institute the necessary disciplinary processes against the employee.
No criminal case was opened by the victim, the municipality confirmed.
Mahlangu said the municipality regarded the incident as serious misconduct and that steps were being taken to address it through internal procedures.
