Inside the Noordheuwel drug bust that uncovered R1.7m stash

A quiet Noordheuwel property became the centre of a major police operation after drugs were found hidden in a car and inside the house.

A suburban property in Noordheuwel was the site of a major drug bust on Sunday, March 15, after police uncovered narcotics valued at more than R1.7m in both a vehicle and inside the home.

The intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 52 and 53.

According to Gauteng Highway Patrol provincial spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, police acted on information about suspected drug activity at the premises.

“Upon arrival, officers requested permission to search the property, which was granted,” Sibeko said.

During the search, police examined a vehicle parked on the property and discovered a bag of drugs with an estimated street value of about R900 000.

A further search of the house led to the discovery of additional drugs worth about R800 000 in a bedroom, resulting in the arrest of the second suspect.

The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at over R1.7m.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court today, March 17.
