Car thief with toy pistol fatally wounded

A stolen vehicle was recovered and items worth over R300 000 were seized following a fatal confrontation with a car thief.

The West Rand Flying Squad (WRFS) responded to a report of a stolen vehicle during the early hours of March 28, which resulted in a fatality.

WRFS spokesperson Karen du Plessis said that at about 04:00, officers assisted a tracking company in locating a stolen VW Polo.

The thief was found in Constantia Kloof and was in possession of a 9mm Glock 19 replica (toy) pistol. Du Plessis confirmed that the thief was shot during the incident and was later declared dead at the scene.

Police recovered the stolen vehicle and several items, including the replica firearm, with a combined value of R314 960.
