Cash and firearms taken in Krugersdorp West CIT attack

CIT officers were held at gunpoint while loading cash, with the gunmen still on the run.

Following yesterday’s (April 20) robbery on the pavement outside a retailer on Rustenburg Road, police have released additional information.

The incident occurred while police were investigating an armed robbery involving cash-in-transit (CIT) officers at an ATM.

According to West Rand Flying Squad spokesperson Karen du Plessis, the incident took place at about 13:40 as CIT officers were preparing to load cash into the ATM.

“Multiple robbers held them at gunpoint, taking the cash and their firearms,” she said.

She added that the robbers fled the scene and, at the time of publication, remain at large.
