Police uncover R1.5m hydroponic dagga lab

Police have uncovered a hydroponic dagga laboratory worth an estimated R1.5m and arrested a 22-year-old Malawian man in Hartzenbergfontein, within the SAPS De Deur precinct in Sedibeng, on Tuesday, September 8.

The arrest followed an intelligence-driven, multi-agency operation involving Gauteng Counter-Intelligence Narcotics, Gauteng Organised Crime, the West Rand K9 Unit, Krugersdorp police and private security companies.

Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakaso Sello said the suspect faces charges relating to the contravention of sections 3 and 5(b) of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act 140 of 1992, as well as Section 49 of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police investigations are ongoing.
