Gas pistol recovered after Muldersdrift tuck shop robbery
A gas pistol, a fleeing getaway car and a suspect detained by community members marked the dramatic aftermath of the late-night robbery in Muldersdrift.
A Muldersdrift tuck shop owner called for help during an armed robbery in the late hours of September 28.
Guardmax Protection Services marketing manager Gerrie van Rooyen said tactical response units were promptly dispatched to the scene, where the suspects fled in all directions. One suspect was detained by members of the community shortly before the team arrived.
“Information revealed that two suspects fled the scene in a white Nissan Almera, but unfortunately no other information or registration details could be retrieved. The team continued to search the area; however, the suspects could unfortunately not be located. One suspect remained in custody as he was severely beaten by the community,” Van Rooyen said.
Van Rooyen explained that upon inspection, the weapon used was confirmed to be a gas pistol rather than an actual firearm.
The suspect was handed over to police for further investigation following the recovery of the gas pistol.
The Krugersdorp News approached Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi for comment. No immediate response was received. An update will be published once a response is received or if any further information comes to light.
