Food-borne illness related deaths: Municipality announces new campaign

Municipality announces the Fix Your Business/ Maak Reg Jou Besigheid campaign following an alarming rise in deaths due to food-borne illnesses.

In line with the government’s response to an alarming rise in deaths due to food-borne illnesses, Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) in partnership with Gauteng Provincial Government embarked on a Lokiša Kgwebo Ya Gago/ Qondis’ Ishishini Lakho/ Fix Your Business/ Maak Reg Jou Besigheid campaign.

According to MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, the campaign is a comprehensive programme to address all aspects of illegality prevalent in the township and rural economies.

“It assumes a developmental approach to promoting compliance and is an approach anchored on collaboration across various stakeholder groupings, playing a critical role in community development. While the focus is on the extent to which businesses comply with licensing, permits, health conditions and others, compliance with zoning rights will also be checked. All property owners running businesses in their premises are therefore invited to attend information sharing sessions on the processes they need to undertake to make their businesses compliant.”
