Watering of gardens ‘extremely wasteful – municipality

The municipality informs the community how wasteful it is to water your garden with a hosepipe.

In October, Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) informed the community of water restrictions to continue until March.

They wish to remind the community about the wastefulness of using a hosepipe.

MCLM communications officer Adrian Amod said a hosepipe can use up to 30 litres of water per minute, which is extremely wasteful.

“A half an hour of using a hosepipe during weekly watering uses about four kilolitres of water per month. Rather use greywater collected from bathroom basins, showers, baths and washing machines to water your garden,” Amod said.

He concluded that small changes in our habits can make a big difference, and said ‘let’s work together to conserve water’.
