Community-driven organisation on a mission to take on Mogale

Krugersdorp Citizens United invites residents to their meet-and-greet on February 13. They plan to hold municipal authorities accountable for service delivery bylaws, policies and budgets.

Krugersdorp Citizens United (KCU) is pleased to announce the official ratification of its constitution, marking a significant milestone in its mission to advocate for accountable governance, transparent municipal leadership and the well-being of all residents and businesses.

KCU board director Karel Balt said to celebrate this achievement and engage with the community, KCU will be hosting a meet-and-greet at 18:30 on Thursday, February 13 at the AFM Church in Noordheuwel.

The event will provide an opportunity for residents to get to know the leadership, and learn more about KCU’s objectives and next steps, including the nomination and election process for members of the Operations Committee scheduled for March 12.

The three board directors, Jacques van Schoor, Karel and Raeford Liebenberg, will provide a brief overview of the constitution, highlight the organisation’s achievements to date and outline future plans.

“KCU has been instrumental in supporting the ongoing litigation by AfriForum against the municipality to adjust the 2024/ 25 electricity tariff increases to the 12.7% figure announced at the IDP, and in engaging with the municipality about by-law enforcement in the Kenmare Kloof. KCU has also led the initiative to form 1Mogale, an overarching association of ratepayers associations and business chambers in Krugersdorp,” he explained.

He added KCU is a non-partisan, community-driven organisation committed to protecting the enjoyment of their property by Krugersdorp residents and business, by holding municipal authorities accountable for service delivery bylaws, policies and budgets.

“Over the past four months, the organisation has worked diligently to develop and refine a constitution that reflects these values and provides a solid framework for action. Residents and businesses are encouraged to attend, engage with the leadership team, and join as KCU subscribers to help shape the environment within which a well-governed, safe, healthy, and sustainable lifestyle is possible,” he concluded.
