Empty taps to full tanks: Plot 10’s water woes eased
Thanks to regular water tank refills, the Plot 10 community in Muldersdrift has seen a significant improvement in their daily lives.
The community of Plot 10 in Muldersdrift, which had constant water pressure issues, was helped by a local estate developer to have a steady water supply.
Darin D’Oliveira, developer of Avianto Estate, explained that they did this to give back to the community by refilling the tanks.
Councillor Shenan Cochrane, who was on site to assist with the filling of the water tanks, said the families of Plot 10 have been suffering greatly without water, with taps sometimes running dry for nearly 48 hours.

One resident, Vukona Khanyisa Mabunda, said they are facing a big challenge with water, and it’s not easy to get it from all the taps, especially from the site where she lives.

“We only get water for a couple of hours a day, which is very hard for us. We have to go to the other section of Plot 10 to get water, and that’s a big challenge. We don’t have enough pipes to bring water to my site.”
She added that, after the tanks were installed, it has improved their lives.
“Now it is easy for us to get water, and before we had it, it was a challenge,” she said.
Another resident, Precious Ntsinaka Ngobeni, agreed that water there is a challenge, as they only get a couple of drops during the late hours of the evening.
“We have women walking in the streets at night just to get water, which is not safe at all, but they don’t have a choice. With the water tanks, it made it much easier, because we fill up and the women sleep peacefully knowing that they will have water in the tank during the day,” she concluded.
