Facility for household and garden waste opens in Magalies

The Magaliesberg Waste Transfer Station is now open for public use, accepting household, garden, and recyclable waste under specific guidelines.

Residents of Magaliesburg and surrounding communities are advised that the Magaliesberg Waste Transfer Station, located on Koster Road next to the cemetery, is now open for public use.

According Mogale City Local Municipality communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, the transfer station operates weekdays from 07:30 to 16:00.

She added that the permitted waste types include general household waste, garden waste and recyclables such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal.

“However, prohibited waste types are hazardous waste such as chemicals, asbestos, oils and medical waste, such as needles, syringes, items contaminated with body fluids and coffins can not be collected as well as Industrial sludge,” Mahlangu said.

To use the facility, residents must first open an account by completing an application form onsite and submitting it alongside:

• A copy of their ID
• Proof of address
• Anyone found disposing of unacceptable waste at the site will be fined and required to remove such waste to a designated facility at their own cost
