Motorist cautioned as R563 reopens near sinkhole

The R563 between Krugersdorp and Hekpoort has reopened after sinkhole investigations, but motorists are urged to remain cautious.

The R563, which connects Krugersdorp and Hekpoort, was temporarily closed for 11 days following the drilling of test pits around the sinkhole.

Councillor Gwen Britz said that the closure was necessary to investigate the cavitation point of the sinkhole further. She informed the Krugersdorp News on October 20 that the road had been reopened since the pit drilling had been completed.

“The next step will be to compile the report, which may take at least six weeks,” she said.

Britz added that although the road is now open, motorists should continue to drive with caution in the affected area.
