Scammers posing as municipal workers target Mogale residents

Scammers driving a white Honda Ballade with fake MCLM stickers are issuing fraudulent final demand letters in Krugersdorp. Stay alert and verify before you pay.

Residents are being urged to stay alert after reports surfaced of fraudsters posing as municipal service providers and threatening to cut off electricity.

According to Mogale City Local Municipality’s assistant manager for Media and Public Relations, Refilwe Mahlangu, the scammers are driving around in a white Honda Ballade (registration JG T9 12 GP), pretending to be from the municipality.

“They have fake MCLM stickers on their vehicle, which appear to be fraudulent,” Mahlangu explained. “We’ve been informed by a reliable source that these individuals are issuing false final demand letters to intimidate residents into paying money.”

The municipality stressed that only Cigicell and Ntiyiso are authorised to carry out official disconnections. Mahlangu urged residents not to let anyone claiming to represent MCLM onto their property or hand over any payments in person.

“This is a scam,” she warned. “The municipality only communicates and accepts payments through trusted, official, and verifiable platforms.”

Residents who are approached by these individuals are encouraged to contact the police immediately on 10111 or verify any suspicious claims directly with the Mogale City Local Municipality.
