Eskom substation failure causes widespread outage

A fault at Eskom intake substations caused a town-wide power outage in Krugersdorp on January 20.

Krugersdorp experienced a widespread power outage on January 20 at about 14:05, affecting numerous suburbs across the town.

Councillor Lourens Gouws confirmed that the outage was caused by a failure on Eskom’s side, where all main intake substations supplying the area were offline.

“It was due to all the main intake substations from Eskom’s side being off, but supply has since been restored from their side,” said Gouws.

He added that any areas in Krugersdorp still experiencing power interruptions should report the issue directly to their ward councillors, as such outages would then fall under municipal responsibility.
