Water leak disrupts reservoir supply in Munsieville, Dan Pienaarville

Repair work has begun on a major water supply pipe feeding two Krugersdorp reservoirs, but residents may face prolonged outages while the extent of the damage is assessed.

A pipe leak on the main supply line feeding the Munsieville and Dan Pienaarville reservoirs has disrupted water supply in parts of Krugersdorp.

The leak occurred on May 9, but according to Mogale City Local Municipality assistant manager for media and PR, Refilwe Mahlangu, repairs could not begin immediately because of the size of the pipe and its role in supplying the two reservoirs.

“The complexity of the repair requires careful planning to minimise disruptions,” she said.

Mahlangu said repair work started today, May 13, and the water supply must be temporarily isolated while the work is underway, affecting several areas.

She added that the full extent of the damage will only be known once excavation and inspections are completed. Because of this, the municipality cannot yet provide an estimated time for water restoration.

Water tankers have been arranged and will be deployed in coordination with the relevant ward councillors.
