Water shortages possible until July
Mogale City residents may experience temporary water interruptions from this Friday during planned maintenance.
Residents should brace for possible water shortages between the end of May and mid-July due to critical planned maintenance by Rand Water and Eskom.
The maintenance is scheduled to take place from May 29 to July 17.
According to Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo, Eskom will conduct maintenance on critical electrical infrastructure at the Palmiet and Zuikerbosch sites to ensure system reliability.
The planned maintenance activities are necessary to improve pump availability and standby capacity.
“They will also improve operational flexibility across key Rand Water systems while reducing the risk of plant trips and equipment failures. During this period, some pumps will need to be switched off, which may result in water supply interruptions,” she said.

Maroo explained that the work was strategically scheduled during the winter season when water demand is typically lower. Rand Water will also carry out some of its own maintenance work during this time.
She added that several municipalities, including Mogale City, could be affected by the maintenance.
“The notice is intended to provide all customers with sufficient time to implement contingency measures and minimise potential water supply disruptions to consumers. Rand Water will continue to provide regular updates throughout the maintenance period via its official communication channels, including social media platforms, to keep customers informed of progress,” she concluded.
