Yusuf Dadoo launches first-ever women’s forum

The Women's Forum at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital is their first ever.

The women from Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital recently made history when they launched their first-ever Women’s Forum.

The women dressed in black with colourful doeks all sang and danced on August 26 and the topics of the day were gender-based violence (GBV), financial empowerment, and women in health amongst others.

The forum’s members will report directly to the Employee Wellness Coordinator and are expected to sit once a month for special meetings in line with departmental terms of reference. During the launch the hospital’s CEO, Dr Rodney Pheto advised the women to work as a team and not try and do everything alone.

The aim is to walk fast but not in isolation,” he said.

The newly elected executive members of the forum also introduced themselves to the other women before signing a pledge.

Daisy Motaung spoke on behalf of the Employee Health and Wellness department and said it was important to have forums such as this one to support each other.

The event included a talk from motivational speaker Angela Dlokova. She is a professional nurse and midwife, and reminded the women that even if they are sometimes perceived as unsung heroes, they still have to learn from the past and move on without bitterness to live their lives to the fullest.
