Man reportedly threatened with knife at Home Affairs office

A man warned the general public to be careful when visiting the Krugersdorp Home Affairs office after he was reportedly threatened with a knife.

Going to the Krugersdorp Home Affairs offices is already a horrible experience for most and now a local man warns others that they have to look out for their own safety there as well.

The 26-year-old Dwayne de Beer works for funeral undertakers and told the News that he has to go to the Home Affairs office almost every day to have paperwork done. Like every other day De Beer went there on Tuesday, September 27.

He got what he needed and as he was leaving he walked past a group of about four men who ‘guard’ the vehicles parked in front of the office and also take ID photos.

When one of the men yelled “P@&pol!” De Beer turned around and asked the man what he had said.

According to De Beer the man pulled out a knife and pointed it at him.

The man in the light blue T-shirt allegedly threatened Wayne de Beer and the later also harassed this man walking by. Photo submitted.

De Beer explained that this was only the second time that he had seen the man there. He phoned the police and wanted to open a case, but waited 30 minutes for them to arrive at the Home Affairs office.

He claimed that he tried to open a case but police explained to him that they could not arrest the man as they did not find a knife on him. But De Beer said the man walked around the block numerous times in the 30 minutes it took police to get there and he could have got rid of the knife.

According to him he was not the only one who had trouble with the man as there were several others including some in his group who seemed not to be too thrilled with him either.

De Beer who is to become a dad soon said he did not want to take on the man but he wished to warn others to be careful when visiting the office.
