Warm a child’s heart and donate to Santa Shoebox

Over the past 16 years the Santa Shoebox project has gifted 1 077 289 underprivileged and socially vulnerable children from South Africa and Namibia.

If you want to share the love this Christmas why not do so with a Santa Shoebox?

Over the past 16 years the Santa Shoebox project has gifted 1 077 289 underprivileged and socially vulnerable children from South Africa and Namibia with shoeboxes. This year their theme of Share the Love is set up in such a way that even if you cannot afford a whole shoebox you can still donate. This year’s theme will also give the recipients the chance to give a gift themselves.

The Santa Shoebox CEO, Deb Zelezniak explained in a statement that donors will have the option to duplicate an item in their box. This means the beneficiary child will also get the opportunity to give a gift to a family member or friend this Christmas.

This helps to empower the children while teaching them the joy of giving.”

She added that underprivileged children usually are not seen as powerful. All too often they only receive hand-me-downs or second-hand items that no one else wants.

“An underprivileged child has the same potential, the same value and the same full, layered life that a child of privilege has. They simply aren’t given the same opportunities. Share the Love is about empowering that child.”

Share the Love also extends to the public, and because people have fallen on hard times they might find it difficult to fill an entire shoebox. This year you can collaborate with someone else to fill up a box. Businesses can also collaborate with each other if they want to fill a number of boxes.

Each Santa Shoebox contains a toothbrush, soap, a facecloth, school supplies, a toy, sweets and an outfit of clothing. This year, in addition to the duplicate item provided by the public, Book Dash, which creates African storybooks will be including two books – one for the recipient and the other for them to gift to someone else.

With Santa Shoebox you can choose the child you pledge for and many children in Krugersdorp need pledges. To pledge for Krugersdorp you can register and pick Krugersdorp as your drop-off point. Log in, go to ‘my pledges’, pick ‘traditional shoebox’ and start pledging.

Drop-offs can be done at Curro Krugersdorp Primary School on these dates:
