Now they have launched their Frame It Forward project and are asking the community to re-cycle, re-spec-tacle and re-use to enable them to help even more people.

Community members can play their part by donating their used frames and lenses to Dynamic Vision, who will tag the prescriptions on the spectacles.

Leandra Lombard, one of the optometrists explained that they would donate the good reading glasses and simple-prescription ones to the Moria and Moreglans old age homes.

The more complex prescription lenses will be removed and the frame will be kept to assist less-fortunate customers in the future.

She explained that not all prescription lenses will be suitable for others to use, but reading glasses or sunglasses can be donated to anyone.

To ensure they get the maximum number of donations Dynamic Vision has partnered with eight schools in the area. They have asked the schools to drop used spectacles in their donation boxes. From Monday, September 26 to Friday, September 30 learners and their parents could bring their used spectacles to be donated.

In return Dynamic Vision will sponsor an eye test, frames and lenses to two children identified in each school. The schools that supported Dynamic Vision are Laerskool Kenmare, Laerskool Muldersdrif Primary School, Laerskool Roodekrans, Laerskool Protearif Primary School, Krugersdorp High School, Hoërskool Noordheuwel, Norienes and Laerskool Krugersdorp-Noord.

If you still have spectacles you wish to donate you are welcome to visit any of the two Dynamic Vision branches at 46 Shannon Road or inside Key West Shopping Centre. There will be permanent donation boxes from now on.

To thank the public for their donation Dynamic Vision will give each donor a discount voucher to use on their next visit to Dynamic Vision.

When at the Kenmare branch all you have to do is drive in, drop your old specs in the box, hoot for your re-spec-tacle voucher and off you go.

The team recently helped a number of children from Pro Practicum School. Leandra said the donated frames will come in handy when they help another school. They were also able to re-purpose some lenses recently when they helped a high school learner from Randfontein.

They have had many enquiries from customers who did not want to simply throw away their used specs, so this is the perfect opportunity.

You can donate any spectacles, even sunglasses. They do have a shortage of spectacles for children under the age of three.

Along with this project they are also running their Out with the Old, In with the New spring special.

The all-inclusive price for the frame, lenses and eye test for single-vision spectacles is R1 400; for bifocal spectacles it is R2 400; and for multi-focal spectacles it is R3 050.

So why not frame you used spectacles forward?
