West Rand Police Commissioner clamps down on suspected robber

The Police Commissioner was traveling with a constable when they spotted a suspicious person in a VW Polo fitted with blue lights.

West Rand District Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana is on top of his game and clamped down on a suspected robber driving the streets of Krugersdorp in an unmarked vehicle with blue lights.

This was on Thursday, October 13 on the R28 in Krugersdorp at around 18:35.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the arrest was a result of excellent power of observation by Major General Kekana and the constable he was travelling with.

“Kekana observed an illegal activity as he was driving with a police constable. They noticed a suspicious unmarked VW Polo fitted with blue lights and the duo immediately stopped the car. The driver who was questioned alleged that he was a police officer and produced what looked like a police identity card. Upon further questioning by the Major General, it became clear that the man is not a police officer and he did not have authority to drive a car fitted with blue lights,” said Masondo

He added that the suspected blue light robber had a fake police appointment certificate and was in possession of a bulletproof vest written police and a licensed firearm.

The suspect is expected to appear before Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court and faces a charge of impersonating a police officer and possession of blue light without authority.
