Collecting titles and inspiring hearts, Wim Keet your new Sir Johannesburg
Winning Mr Krugersdorp 2020 was only the start of Wim Keet’s pageantry career and he has since been raking in the titles and also inspiring where he goes.
The man with the golden heart, Wim Keet recently added another title to his pageant roster when he became Sir Johannesburg 2023.
Wim won his very first title when he became Mr Krugersdorp 2020, since then he has not only competed in many other pageants but has also been continuing his charity work and working behind the scenes on other pageants.
The 32-year-old said his motto is that one person can make a difference and this allows him as an educator to make a difference in the lives of his learners – to support them and be a role model for the younger generation. Apart from growing in his career he also dreams of having his own modelling agency and adding many more titles to his name. But mainly he wants to be happy and settled with his loved ones.
Working with the youth, Wim believes that the biggest problem facing the youth today is cyber bullying.
“Most children today are dealing with social media. Unfortunately, this has a negative effect on children. It makes them feel afraid, degraded and often it makes a person feel like they are worthless and even gives them suicidal ideation.”
Thinking of the youth he said that if he had the opportunity to give his younger self advice, he would tell little Wim to just be himself, everyone else is already taken.
“In order to be oneself, one has to take risks, to accept that one is not perfect and to be courageous enough to say what one really thinks.”
Wim tries to balance a healthy work life with spending time with friends and family. He said he tries to inspire others and be a role model for them in order for them to know that they can turn to him in times of need.
When he is not trying to change the world, Wim has a tropical fish aquarium, enjoys plants and gardening and hiking. Modelling is also one of his favourite hobbies.
His dream travel destination is Thailand and he explained that the tropical beauty with its beaches and ancient temples, their culture, food and wildlife have always appealed to him.
One of his biggest achievements was when he won the Mr Krugersdorp title in 2020, which was the start of the pandemic.
“I decided to step up and help people in need. As a finalist we had many charity projects that gave me an opportunity to show people who I really am and that I care for the community by collecting masks, food and visiting old age homes.”
Some of the titles that Wim has behind his name is Sir Johannesburg 2023, Mr Royalty ZA 1st runner up 2022, Mr King of Nile 2nd runner up 2021, Mr Tri Province 2021 and Mr Krugersdorp 2020. His advice for those who also want to enter in pageants is to do their homework, pick a great suit or dress, be prepared for the interviews and always believe in yourself.
One of the charity projects he is currently busy with is called Power Towers where they collect non perishable food. He invites anyone to contact him if they are interested in getting involved.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13;)”, is what keeps him motivated.
