Be like a Chinese bamboo tree – hospital’s Women’s Forum to others

Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital has been focusing on sharing ideas and issues at their Women's Forum for one year now.

Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital’s Women’s Forum recently celebrated its first anniversary where all women were encouraged to leave a legacy.

This forum was launched to share different ideas among women. Topics focused on include gender-based violence, finance literacy, a healthy lifestyle and spiritual upliftment. But hospital communications officer, Puseletso Mabidikame said the main reason is to improve service delivery.

The forum’s chairperson, Magdaline Maquengue, told the women that they are the cornerstone of every family, community, and patient they serve.

“We celebrated Women’s Month under the theme: Women’s socio-economic rights and empowerment to build better for women’s improved resilience.”

The crowd has a jol on the ground.

She also encouraged the women to join and attend meetings, workshops, and training organised by the Central Office Employees Health and Wellness.

“The Dr Yusuf Dadoo team also supports other hospitals and districts when they have relevant activities.”

Bathabile Makgethi, a life coach, was the motivational speaker for the day and spoke about female icons throughout history like Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa, Sophia Williams, Sophia Williams De Bruyn, Charlotte Maxeke and more.

She told the women the legacy they leave should resemble those of their icons.

“We must be like a Chinese bamboo tree which has deep roots and grows very tall. I want all women to stand firm against the storms of life just like the Chinese bamboo tree. As a woman, you are to pray for your family to destroy the generational curses, an imbokodo is not very strong like a rock, but her skin is very soft, they derive their strength from their prayer closet, so that the ‘real rock’ may handle all their challenges.”

Deputy director from the central office, Ntombikayise Mdumbe, also thanked everyone and told women in attendance that the forum was there to support each other, not to judge.

“It is meant to bring peace and harmony,” Mdumbe said.

The women also received gifts for this special occasion.
