Lightning strike affects Mogale City water supply

Mogale City's water supply is said to be affected after lightning struck a substation this past weekend.

Mogale City regrets to inform residents that Rand Water’s Eikenhof substation was struck by lightning during the weekend affecting the water supply to consumers.

According to Mogale City communication officer, Refilwe Mahlangu, this incident will negatively affect Mogale City reservoir levels as the water demand is amplified by increased heat thus putting strain on the municipality’s water resources and infrastructure.

“However, we do anticipate water levels to reach the required levels by Monday afternoon (March 4). Water Services urges residents to restrict water consumption to necessary use to reduce pressure on our water supply network,” Mahlangu said.

The municipality will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates however, water tankers will be on standby to respond to affected areas.

“While we remain committed to providing sustainable and reliable water supply to all consumers, we require your assistance and support,” Mahlangu concluded.
