Meet the most dedicated animal lover in town
Lebo Matemane has a bone infection, which makes his job at a vet difficult, but a charity organisation has paid for his upcoming surgery.
Lebo Matemane works alongside Dr Andrea Prigge at the Silverfields Veterinarian Clinic as a kennel assistant. This job involves Kennel bookings, the handling and calming of frightened animals, prepping animals for surgery, assisting with anaesthesia and the general care of people’s pets.
“The clinic definitely cannot function without Lebo, as he is my right-hand man,” said Dr Andrea. Lebo is excellent with animals, where he is great at calming them down and is referred to by the community as ‘the dog whisperer’.
Unfortunately, Lebo has a severe bone infection in his leg, which makes his job extremely difficult for him. He has had this problem for about six months, which makes him unable to walk and carry pets, and it is in general difficult for him to do his job as he needs to stand a lot. He battles this by still going to work, even though he is in pain, by sitting while he tries to work and by having to take time off.
Luckily the HotCares team, a non-profit company, has contributed the funds to help Lebo get the surgery that he needs to heal the infection. The operation will involve the bone getting opened up and being cleaned from the inside.
“I hope to be back on my feet soon to continue helping and loving animals,” said Lebo.
