Suspected arson near Bob van Reenen Stadium

A fire broke out today, October 18, at about 12:30 on the corner of Church and Kobie Krige Street, near Bob van Reenen Stadium.

The Krugersdorp News visited the scene, where Ward 20 councillor Mark Trump confirmed that the fire was suspected to be arson, following a dispute between two homeless individuals.

The West Rand District Municipality’s fire brigade responded, assisting with extinguishing the fire and checking for anyone affected.

“A fight broke out over an alleged theft. One of the individuals involved retrieved five litres of petrol and set the area on fire,” Trump explained.

No injuries or fatalities were reported, but an investigation will follow, as this marks the fourth fire incident at the location this year.
