Fire at indoor shooting range sparks chaos, smoke and ammo hazards

West Rand Emergency Services provided more information regarding the fire that broke out at a firearms store in Krugersdorp West.

Emergency services recently faced significant challenges while extinguishing a fire at a shooting range, hindered by difficulties with the fire hydrant and access to the area.

According to West Rand Emergency Services Regional Commander Gerhard Nieuwoudt, the fact that the blaze occurred at an indoor shooting range made ventilation especially difficult.

“Due to all the smoke at the scene, extinguishing the fire was a huge challenge,” Nieuwoudt told the Krugersdorp News.

The blaze, which broke out on November 6, caused substantial damage to both the shooting range and a firearms store in Krugersdorp West.

Krugersdorp fire station officer Jaco van der Westhuizen at the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found the indoor shooting range fully alight, with heavy smoke and live ammunition going off,” Nieuwoudt added.

Emergency services, along with the police, local CPF, and ambulance crews, responded quickly to the scene, and thankfully, no fatalities were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by fire risk management.
