Rotary Krugersdorp celebrates recent milestones with funds allocation
The recent Friends of the Rotary function highlighted the importance of community service.
The Friends of Rotary function is held annually to acknowledge community members and their exceptional service to, and within, the community.
Several have received Merit Awards from this organisation as it is seen as an opportunity to recognise the importance of community service.
According to Krugersdorp Rotary Club president Dehlia van Staden, the function was hosted by the Rotary Club alongside the West Rand Show Trust. Funds were raised and handed out with interest earned on their investment. At the end of the function, four organisations were granted funds which will be invested and used for their designated community outreach programmes.
These organisations are:
• Rotary Club of Krugersdorp receiving R435 000
• The Family and Child Welfare Centre receiving R125 000
• NG Welsyn receiving R125 000
• The Oud Ondersteunings Raad and New Hope Church receiving R125 000
“These organisations must report back to us with what they have done with the interest earned on the investment. The Capital Investment is held in a trust and then we have smaller recipients of the funds such as The Bethany House Trust, The Cradle of Hope, Project Hope Munsieville, Lighthouse Care Centre for the disabled children in Tarlton, Baby Jade House for orphaned children and The Gideons Bible Association,” Dehlia said.
The function saw 70 people attend which included members of various CPFs, police officials, the Rotary Anns, and block leaders from the Golden Age Village and Memorial Flats.
“It is a big thanksgiving evening where we acknowledge service above self,” Dehlia added.
