VIDEO: Meet The Parlotones’ guitar maestro from Krugersdorp
Meet Paul Hodgson, the guitarist for The Parlotones and a Krugersdorp resident, where he tells a bit of his music background.
The Parlotones is widely considered as one of South Africa’s most famous bands but did you know their guitarist is a Krugersdorp resident? Meet Paul Hodgson, who grew up in our neighbouring Roodepoort before he moved to Krugersdorp later in his life.
Paul told the Krugersdorp News that The Parlotones was the first band he was in, and it was only in 1998 when they started, that he also started playing the guitar.
“In 2000, we released our first extended play record, Superstars, but the band took off around 2005 when our album, RadioControlledRobot came out. For the next 20 years, playing in the band was a full-time job,” Paul explained.

He continued during this time they toured the world – from the streets of London to down under in Australia.
“When we started, it was a life of sleeping in a van – it was always an adventure. When writing music, the best way to get inspired is to listen to music. Some of my favourite bands are Radiohead, and recently a band called Manchester Orchestra,” he added.
He continued that since half of the band is overseas now, it is extremely difficult to play and perform together and he finds there is only chemistry in music when you play together. He added it is boring playing alone and has since started another band called After Wonderland, and he said it is something fun for him.
“This band has a 90s sound with four songs available on all streaming services. Our latest song, Try Again Later, will be released on December 13,” Paul concluded.
