Dog tied to a vagrant’s bin rescued by SPCA

SPCA seeking a rightful owner of a tan and white pitbull rescued from a vagrant in Witpoortjie.

The Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA has issued a warning to community members in the Witpoortjie area to be cautious of a vagrant pushing a wheelie bin with dogs either confined inside the bin or tied to the bin.

According to SPCA manager Mandy Cattanach, the vagrant is suspected to be stealing the dogs for protection or companionship.

“We have been called several times to assist with dogs either trapped inside the wheelie bin or tied to it. Our last interaction with him could have ended in our inspector being stabbed,” she says.

Cattanach says in a recent incident one of SPCA’s senior inspectors rescued a tan and white pit bull mix that was tied to the vagrant’s bin.

“The dog was wearing a Rogz collar and lead, which raised suspicions about its origin. When confronted, the vagrant pulled a knife and attacked our inspector. However, he managed to defuse the situation without being harmed.

“Situations with vagrants are not only limited to Witpoortjie. Residents need to be careful and ensure the safety of their pets.

“The SPCA is now seeking the owner of the rescued pit bull mix and is urging anyone with information to come forward. We’re concerned about the welfare of this dog and want to reunite it with its rightful owner,” she says.

Community members with information can contact the SPCA on 011 672 0448.
