A former teacher recently passed away after a long battle with illness.
Ruan Venter (86) was an educator at Westcol TVET College (formerly Krugersdorp College) for over 20 years.
According to his wife Retha Venter, he will be remembered for his kind and loving character.
“He was a passionate and friendly man with a heart for helping his students and those around him. He was always friendly, helpful, giving advice, always there when you needed him, and patient with his children and grandchildren. He always had time for me, always time for a joke, a smile, and a walk around the block. When we left for a visit somewhere, he always wanted to go with us and was very attentive to our needs,” Retha said.
Retha also added that he was a good husband as they were married for almost 60 years, and was a good father and a very patient grandfather.
He studied at the University of Pretoria and would be a teacher for over 40 years. Always an academic, he enjoyed planting proteas, learning music, working in the garden, and watching history and geography channels on TV.
He eventually became the deputy principal at the college and would later retire after decades of service.
