Safety for all is our priority – Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital
Dr Yusuf Dadoo hosted a workshop to find ways to improve the quality of service and encourage employee health and safety.
The Occupational Health and Safety Department conducted an intensive workshop at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital to refresh the knowledge and sharpen the skills of safety, health and environment representatives as well as safety personnel.
According to the Employee Health and Safety officer Nwabisa Mdazuka, the workshop comes amid the increasing prevalence of natural disasters in various parts of the country and the rising number of incidents occurring in facilities across the province.
“We convened as a team to ensure no one or nothing is overlooked. Our efforts are aimed at promoting a culture of safety and maintaining the highest levels of compliance within our facility,” Mdazuka said.
She also added that during this interactive and engaging workshop, participants were divided into groups to facilitate collaboration and active learning as follows:
• Problem-solving: Groups were presented with various safety scenarios and tasked with developing solutions, fostering critical thinking and teamwork
• Group discussions and presentations: Participants engaged in discussions about best practices in safety management and shared insights from their experiences. Each group presented their findings, promoting knowledge-sharing
• Word searches: To reinforce learning in a fun way, participants completed word searches related to safety terminology and procedures
Also addressing the team was the hospital’s acting CEO Diana Ngwenya who gave directives to representatives to be strict and brave in their work, including advising senior members to be ethical and comply with the Employment Safety Act.
“This initiative will continue throughout the year to ensure that safety remains a priority and that all personnel are prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency. The message that resonated throughout the workshop was that ‘safety for all is our priority, and we need to be vigilant at all times’,” Mdazuka concluded.
