Veteran tow driver warns motorists about dangers on the Voortrekker Rd curve

A tow truck driver with 15 years of experience warns drivers about frequent errors that cause crashes on the dangerous curve of Voortrekker Road.

Veteran tow truck driver Johan Visser, who responded to yet another serious crash at the dangerous curve on Voortrekker Road near the Shannon Road intersection, has urged motorists to drive with caution.

Visser, who has more than 15 years of experience in the towing industry, said that when he arrived at the scene, the vehicle was on its roof and appeared to have collided with a tree.

“There were parts scattered everywhere, and one of the wheels had been ripped off,” he said.

He explained that crashes at the bend are influenced by several factors, including driver behaviour and weather conditions.

“This was the first incident in a few months, but during the rainy season, crashes are more frequent because cars tend to slip. Speed also plays a big role – some drivers misjudge the bend, which leads to accidents. There are many contributing factors; it depends on how motorists drive,” Visser added.

He advised road users to exercise extreme caution when navigating the curve, especially in poor weather conditions.
