Emergency crews detail chaos in massive 18-vehicle crash near Pinehaven
West Rand EMS confirms details of the chaotic multi-vehicle crash, outlining their emergency response and the challenges faced at the scene.
West Rand Emergency Services have confirmed the full extent of yesterday’s (28 August) chaotic crash near Cradlestone Mall, where two trucks and 16 light motor vehicles were involved, leaving seven people injured.
According to regional commander Gerhard Nieuwoudt, the call came in at 08:15 when a truck travelling from the Pinehaven intersection towards Roodepoort collided with several vehicles and another truck.

He said seven people were injured.

“Five people had non-life-threatening injuries, and two had light injuries,” Nieuwoudt explained.

Nineteen services responded, including Krugersdorp’s fire department, police and reservists, ambulances, Mogale City Public Safety and private security.

Nieuwoudt noted several challenges on scene, including bystanders moving through the crash site, traffic congestion and reporters interfering with emergency services. Despite this, he said operations ran smoothly.
