‘Save the Kenmare Kloof, together’
The kloof is a protected area – but it needs hands, heart, and help to stay that way.
The Kenmare Kloof Conservation Association (KKCA) is on a mission to rehabilitate the kloof and is asking local businesses and the community to join hands with them.
The kloof has been declared a protected conservation area, and co-director of the KKCA, Chantel van Zijl, says they have ongoing monthly community clean-up days, as well as weekly work in the kloof, such as the continuous clearing of invasive plants and trees like Black Wattle and Bugweed. This aims to remove harmful vegetation, restore native plants and biodiversity, and maintain the protected area status; however, they cannot continue to do it alone.
“To make these continuous projects possible and keep the momentum running, we’re seeking donations and sponsorships of materials, tools, or funds to support the non-profit,” Van Zijl explained.

Items they need include:
• tree/ plant/ weed-clearing equipment
• gardening and safety gloves
• herbicide
• paint brushes
• black refuse bags and cleaning products such as brooms, toilet paper, and handwash
• bottles of water for volunteers
• any form of monetary contribution to help purchase supplies
They also have a beehive that they would like to safely move and rehome in the kloof, as the hive is currently in an old dumping area in the kloof.
“Every donation – big or small – makes a lasting impact! Together, we can make a difference in preserving our local environment and building a stronger, more connected, and safer community.”
If you want to assist in rehabilitating the kloof, you can contact the KKCA on 063 903 1370 or kenmarekloofconservation@gmail.com.
“Let’s work together to protect our local greenbelts and neighbourhoods for future generations to come,” she concluded.
