The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for Krugersdorp residents ahead of expected severe thunderstorms.

According to SAWS, the thunderstorms are forecast to occur from 14:00 on January 8 until 23:59 later tonight.

The agency warned that the storms could cause damage to infrastructure, informal settlements, property, vehicles and livestock.

“There may be localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas, and bridges, large amounts of small hail [or large hail in some areas], localised damage to settlements in open areas, and temporary disruptions to communication and municipal services,” the warning stated.
