Partnership uplifts 50 families in Kagiso

Families received food hampers and vital support through a community initiative aimed at restoring hope and protecting children.

Education of Hope Africa, in partnership with Mogale Tailings Retreatment, brought smiles and renewed hope to the Kagiso community after successfully distributing annual food hampers to 50 families recently at the Education of Hope Africa Centre.

The initiative provided much-needed relief to vulnerable households and reaffirmed the organisations’ commitment to supporting the Kagiso community.

During the distribution, Education of Hope Africa director Portia Mmbidi encouraged parents and community members to speak out and report abuse, gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) and child neglect, so that relevant authorities can intervene and take action.

According to programme co-ordinator Timothy Zulu, the message underscored the importance of protecting children and creating safer homes and communities.

Portia also addressed parents on the high rate of teenage pregnancy and its devastating impact on the girl child’s education, health, and overall well-being. She highlighted that teenage pregnancy often leads to school dropouts, disrupted learning, and limited future opportunities, placing young girls at greater risk of poverty and emotional distress.

“I encourage parents and guardians to play an active role in guiding, supporting, and protecting their children through open communication, proper supervision, and education on responsible behaviour. It is also important to create safe spaces where girls can speak out, seek help, and access support services to ensure they remain in school and build a brighter future,” said Timothy.

Ward 11 representative Lydia Khwatya applauded Education of Hope Africa and Mogale Tailings Retreatment for their continued dedication and meaningful contribution to the well-being of the Kagiso community. She further expressed appreciation for the consistent support that uplifts vulnerable households and strengthens community resilience.

Community members also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Education of Hope Africa for providing weekly nutritious meals and assisting children with homework after school through its educational and feeding programmes, which play a vital role in improving learners’ wellbeing, academic progress, and overall development.
