Police recover burnt vehicles in Soweto, one linked to Krugersdorp owner

Two suspected stolen vehicles were found burnt and abandoned in Soweto, with one traced back to a Krugersdorp owner as investigations continue.

A Krugersdorp vehicle owner has been linked to one of two burnt and suspected stolen vehicle shells recovered in Soweto after authorities acted on a community tip-off.

The Gauteng Traffic Wardens Saturation Task Team (STT) received information from members of the Lufhereng community regarding a suspected vehicle-stripping site.

According to Gauteng Department of Community Safety spokesperson Ofentse Morwane, the tip-off indicated that two burnt vehicle shells, believed to be stolen, had been abandoned in bushes near Flower Road.

Officers proceeded to the identified area, where both vehicle shells were recovered.

“One of the vehicles contained documents belonging to the owner, who was traced to Krugersdorp,” Morwane said.

Both vehicles were subsequently booked into the Lenasia vehicle impound centre for safekeeping and further investigation.
