Rand Water cuts supply – Mogale residents to brace for shortages

Residents are urged to conserve water as reservoir levels drop and supply pressure increases.

Rand Water has reduced the municipality’s pumping capacity to ease pressure on its distribution network.

According to Mogale City’s senior communications practitioner, Tendani Shavani, this follows ongoing challenges in balancing water demand, which currently exceeds available supply across Gauteng.

As a result, reservoir levels are rapidly declining.

Current reservoir levels are:

• Kagiso: 7%
• Kagiso Ext 13: 1%
• Azaadville: 31%
• Kenmare Sump: 38%
• Kenmare Reservoir: 32%

Residents in high-lying areas may experience low water pressure, intermittent supply or temporary outages.

The municipality advises residents to use water sparingly during this period by reducing shower times and limiting non-essential water usage to help stabilise the system.

Water tankers will be dispatched to affected areas via ward councillors to minimise the impact on residents.
